Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for street maintenance, snowplowing, grading, park maintenance, storm sewer system, sanitary sewer system, water utility, street sweeping, patching, etc. There are eight full-time employees, one full time-clerical employee, and 20 seasonal pool employees.

Our work is also supplemented by contractors and consultants retained and supervised by the Department. The City Council has committed approximately $750,000.00 annually to its capital construction projects in addition to maintenance projects. These include street construction & reconstruction; sidewalk construction & maintenance, and installation of utilities.

The Public Work Department manages and maintains:

  • 40 miles of streets, alleys and parking lots (snowplowing, patching & sweeping)
  • 30 miles of sanitary sewer main
  • 32 miles of water main
  • Storm sewer system
  • Traffic control signs and markings
  • Stop blocks, crosswalks and curb painting
  • 22 vehicles and heavy equipment
  • 1 - 320,000 gallon municipal pool
  • 2 miles of Riverwalk paths
  • 2 City parks
  • 3 baseball diamonds
  • 4 park shelters
  • 1 tennis court
  • 3 playgrounds
  • 2 basketball courts
  • 4 volleyball courts
  • 9 camp sites
  • Along with providing supervision and inspection on the City’s capital projects
